On 25 April the ECG Eastern Europe Regional meeting took place in Istanbul. The meeting was kindly hosted by Turkish ECG members Ant Lojisitk, Me-Par and Omsan Logistics. Almost 70 ECG members and partners based in Central and Eastern Europe gathered for the first meeting of the group this year.
Krzysztof Szeligowski, chair, opened the meeting and welcomed all attendees giving an update on the market situation in Eastern Europe. During the roundtable discussion, participants discussed the market situation in their respective countries and expectations for the coming months.
Jovana Vancevska, ECG Research & Project Manager updated the attendees on the current legislative developments at the EU level concerning the EU Greening Freight Package, specifically on the new regulation CountEmissions EU and the revision of the Weights and Dimensions directive. ECG informed that the European Parliament adopted common position on the file and supports harmonisation of the loaded length of vehicle transporters to 20.75m. The next step includes adoption of the file at the Council level.
Other updates concerned the Eurovignette Directive, new CO2 road toll surcharge implemented by various Member States, the implementation of legislation on smart tachograph 2 and the new VDI standard for lashing on vehicle transporters.
The meeting continued with an update by Mike Sturgeon, ECG Executive Director, on ECG’s recent activities and 2024 strategic objectives amongst which are the Finished Vehicle Logistics (FVL) cost index, emissions reporting standardisation and the Tech Board. Members were also informed of activities under the active ECG Working Groups (WGs), such as the Digitalization and Health & Safety WGs, and future ECG events including the annual ECG General Assembly & Spring Congress taking place in Baveno on 23/24 May 2024.
The meeting continued with the traditional social and networking programme which included a dinner on board a boat while cruising the Bosphorus.

The objective of the group is to focus on issues that are specific to this region of operations. Meetings are held two times a year in different locations throughout the region. open to all ECG members and are free of charge.
