As previously reported, European Car Carriers (UECC), jointly owned by Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and Wallenius Lines, signed a contract to construct three new generation PCTC with China Ship Building Trading Co., Ltd and Jiangnan Shipyard Group Co. Ltd. back in 2019. The keel laying ceremony for UECC’s first, in a series of three, LNG Battery Hybrid powered PCTC took place at Jiangnan Shipyard, Shanghai, China on 10th of August. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, there were no representative from the UECC head office in Oslo, Norway attending the ceremony. However, the ceremony was attended by UECC’s on site team; Wengang Zhou, Zhang Yuan and Wu Zheng Wei (see above picture).
According to UECC’s CEO, Glenn Edvardsen, “Yet another milestone has taken place in UECC’s massive investment in sustainable new vessels. UECC’s commitment to carbon intensity reduction is a strong as ever, and with these 3 new vessels in our fleet, along with our 2 existing dual fuel LNG PCTCs, UECC will go beyond IMO’s target of 40% reduction in carbon intensity by 2030”.
Mr. Edvardsen added “at UECC, like with our parent companies; NYK and Wallenius Lines, we have sustainability in our DNA and It is our duty to take UECC to the next level of clean shipping.”
